Tony Davies, Transfusion Liaison Practitioner, NHS Blood and Transplant Service
Tony has worked in the NHS as a Biomedical Scientist in Haematology and Blood Transfusion for 30 years, including 13 years as Transfusion Laboratory Manager and 4 years as Transfusion Practitioner in a busy teaching hospital in Salford, where he formulated a number of transfusion-related policies in conjunction with the midwifery department.
Tony joined NHS Blood & Transplant in May 2007, where his role is 'equally, but flexibly' divided between the Better Blood Transfusion Team, supporting North West hospitals to deliver the recommendations in the Health Service Circular, and the Serious Hazards of Transfusion scheme, based in Manchester. He writes the anti-D chapter in the annual SHOT report, is a member of the NHSBT Paediatric Transfusion group, an Associate Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University, and a Council member of the British Blood Transfusion Society.
