Joe Jones, Director, Canterbury Gypsy & Traveller Support Group

Joe is a Romany Gypsy. He has been an activist since 1972, in one form or another for the Gypsy and Traveller population. He is founder of Canterbury Gypsy Support Group, Co Founder of The Youth Division and The Sylvia Dunn Centre. Joe works with local PCT's and the Education departments and he is now Chair of the Gypsy Council. Joe is also adviser to DCLG Gypsy Unit. And his main aim it to see Gypsies and Travellers accepted into all mainstream service providers employment and their children also join mainstream education to gain from training and employment. Joe also wants to stop Central and Local Governments looking at Gypsies and Travellers as a problem instead to focus on the positives of looking for a solution.
