Byron Davies

Byron is President of SOLACE

Following a BSc degree from Swansea University Byron qualified as a chartered civil engineer. After practicing in the private and public sectors he transferred to professional management roles, following the completion of an MPhil at the University of Glamorgan.

Byron has held various civil engineering, property development and senior management posts. He became a chief officer and then director of Property Services for South Glamorgan County Council in 1990, and was appointed as chief executive in 1992. In 1996, following local government reorganisation, he was appointed chief executive for Cardiff Council, the new unitary authority for Cardiff, the capital city for Wales.

For two decades Byron has been at the heart of the regeneration and transformation of the Capital City of Wales. He has played significant roles in the development of Cardiff Airport, the Millennium Stadium, the city centre, Cardiff Bay and the Cardiff Harbour Authority and is a founder non-executive director of Millennium Stadium plc.

Byron has made a contribution to the professional development of public services as a long-serving chief executive and as president of the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE UK) for 2007-08. He has also served as secretary of the Wales Branch of SOLACE.

Byron is the vice president of, UDiTE, the pan-European chief executive professional body.
