Nargis Khan was first elected to the London Borough of Hackney in 2002 and currently serves as Cabinet Member for Community Services, a portfolio which includes health, adult social care, the voluntary & community sector, leisure, libraries and culture. In 2002 Nargis fed into the Cantle review of Community Cohesion, in particular practical solutions in the role of political and community leadership. She has also advised the Home Office-led task force 'Preventing Extremism Together', with a focus on engaging women in Politics and Public Life. In 2006 Nargis was appointed to the Commission for Integration and Cohesion to consider how local areas themselves can play a role in forging cohesive and resillient communities. The commissions report ‘Our Shared Future’ was publised in June 2007.
