Caitlyn McCarthy
Caitlyn McCarthy first entered the domestic violence field as a volunteer on the helpline at DVIP (Domestic Violence Intervention Project) in Hammersmith in 1996.
In 2001, after ten years of working as a journalist in London, Caitlyn decided to commit her energies full-time to improving the support for people affected by domestic abuse.
Caitlyn took a job in the voluntary sector co-ordinating volunteers at Victim Support in Brighton. In this role, she worked closely with the police to flag up all DV cases and to provide a seamless and effective support service from the point of reporting.
In 2004, Caitlyn joined WORTH (Ways of Responding through Health) Services as a frontline worker and trained A&E and maternity staff to carry out routine enquiry. She then went on to develop routine enquiry into primary care through GP surgeries and GUM clinics. In 2008, she was involved in the implementation of The Saturn Centre, the SARC (Sexual Assault Referral Centre) in West Sussex.
Caitlyn is now the Training and Development Officer for West Sussex County Council Domestic and Sexual Violence Services.
