Professor Sir Patrick Stewart is Chancellor of the University of Huddersfield. He is an internationally respected actor known for successfully bridging the gap between the theatrical world of the Shakespearean stage and Contemporary film and television.

He is perhaps best known for his roles as captain Jean-Luc Picard In the hit TV and film series Star Trek: The Next Generation and as Professor Xavier in the 20th Century Fox’s X-Men movies. On television he has played Ahab in Moby Dick, King Henry ll in Lion in Winter with Glenn Close, Scrooge in A Christmas Carol and John Lear in King of Texas. For these roles he received numerous Golden Globe, Emmy and SAG nominations.

Patrick is an Honorary Associate Artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC), having been made an Associate Artist in 1967. With the RSC, he has played such roles as King John, Shylock, Henry IV, Cassius, Titus Andronicus, Oberon, Leontes, Enobarbus, Touchstone and Launce. In 2006, to great acclaim, he starred in Antony and Cleopatra and the Tempest, and in 2007 in Macbeth, for which he received the Evening Standard Best Actor Award and a Tony Best Actor nomination when the production transferred to Broadway. In 2009 he starred with Sir Ian McKellen in the sold out production of Waiting for Godot. He was knighted in the 2010 New Years Honours list. He is currently on stage in London starring as William Shakespeare in Bingo.

Within his busy work schedule he takes his involvement with the University extremely seriously, spending as much time as possible with staff and students. He is Professor of Performing Arts at the University and regularly delivers sessions for drama students.
