Maria McNichol
I have worked for St Giles Trust in their prison projects for 10 years. I started our first flagship 'Peer Advice Project' at HMP Wandsworth, training prisoners to NVQ Level 3 in Advice & Guidance and supporting them to provide resettlement advice to their peers in prison.
This project won the Andy Ludlow Award (2004), the Butler Trust Award (2006) and the Times Charity Award (2007) and has now been transferred successfully into the community, where ex-offenders deliver a meet-at-the-gate service to prisoners being released in London and the South East.
I completed a MA in prisoner education at the Institute of Education, University of London and am a Senior Manager with responsibility for St Giles Trust prison projects which provide resettlement support to prisoners upon release.
