James Winter is the outgoing Chair of the Council of Validating Universities (CVU). He is Head of the Collaborative Partnerships Office at Manchester Metropolitan University, with responsibility for the University’s collaborative partnerships and for widening participation.

He joined MMU in 2007 after eight years at Liverpool John Moores University and, prior to that, nine years at Sheffield Hallam. He was a member of the Executive of the CVU from 2003, Vice Chair from 2006-09 and Chair until September of this year. In that capacity, he was a member of the QAA’s HE in FE Policy Forum, QAA’s Advisory Group for the conversion of Chapter 2 of the Code of Practice into B10 of the Quality Code and a member of the Council of the BAC.
