Dr Andrew Murray

Dr Andrew Murray is a highly accomplished athlete and expedition doctor. In 2011 he ran from John O’Groats to the Sahara Desert in 77 days and 8 hours, covering a staggering distance of 2659 miles. Andrew’s accomplishment was the equivalent of running over 101 consecutive marathons and is a new British record.

During his run Andrew raised over £75000 for the Yamaa Trust, who deliver improved standards of living in Mongolia. His epic run was filmed by BBC Scotland and the documentary ‘the Ultimate Marathon Man’ aired in April 2011.
Andrew has placed first overall in races in some of the world’s most extreme environments including the Sahara Race, the Gobi Challenge, the 6633 Arctic Ultra, and the Indo Jungle Ultra. He has climbed the highest peaks in Europe, Australia, South America, and Africa.

His work as an expedition doctor has taken him from the Himalaya to the North Pole, working on 6 continents and working with some of the world's top athletes, and some of Scotland’s top teams. He works with the Scottish Government’s Active Nation team to promote the value of exercise.

Andrew’s first book “Running Beyond Limits” was published in September 2011(Mountain Media). He is currently planning a groundbreaking expedition to the Himalaya/ Greater ranges and has recently taken on a role as Scottish Government Physical Activity Champion.
