Nick Butler
Nick Butler has over ten years’ experience in developing and implementing sustainable transport programmes in the public, private and community sectors. His interest in the promotion of sustainable transport stems from his time at Leeds Metropolitan University where he studied Physical Activity, Exercise and Health. Nick quickly became aware of the potential for sustainable and active travel as a tool for tackling a number of key policy areas including improving public health, tackling obesity, reducing congestion and protecting the environment.
For the last six years Nick has worked on Darlington Borough Council’s Local Motion project which was set up as part of the Department for Transport’s Sustainable Travel Demonstration Towns initiative. During this time, Nick also spent two years as the Department for Transport’s Regional School Travel Advisor for the North East and Yorkshire & The Humber regions. He is currently the Vice Chair of Modeshift and is currently working on the development and roll out of the Modeshift STARS national school travel accreditation scheme.
