Professor Barry McCormick CBE
Barry McCormick is Director of the Centre for Health Service Economics and Organisation at Oxford. He was Chief Economist/Chief Analyst at Department of Health 2002-2010. His interests include: health care reform, emergency care, funding clinical educational, and healthcare for deprived communities and the homeless.
He was Professor of Economics at Southampton University, 1991-2002. He served, 2004-9, on the Council/Executive Committee of Royal Economic Society. Between 2002-2010 he served on the selection panel of the Harkness Fellowships. He has published extensively in academic journals. He co-authored Immigration Policy and the Welfare System (OUP 2002).
His Reports for DH include “Explaining NHS Deficits, 2003/04-2005/06” and “Hospital Organisation, Specialty Mix, and MRSA”. His latest publication is Pathway Peer Review to Improve Quality of Care, a Health Foundation “Thought Piece”. He received his degrees from Manchester and MIT, where he was a Harkness Fellow.
