Ken Sloan
Ken Sloan joined the University as Registrar and Chief Operating Officer in February 2012 and is responsible for the administration of the University under the direction of the Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Nigel Thrift. He also serves as Clerk to the Senate, Secretary to all University Committees and Company Secretary to the University’s companies and commercial businesses. As Secretary to Council he reports directly to the Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council, Sir George Cox.
Prior to his appointment at Warwick, Ken was Director for Universities and Higher Education for international services company SERCO with responsibility for broadening and strengthening the company's relationship with universities and related organisations.
Ken’s first professional appointment was as a Graduate Trainee with KPMG in Birmingham where he worked as part of the Public Sector (Education) group. He first joined Warwick in 1997 as a Schools Liaison Officer. He then served: in the Vice-Chancellor and President’s Office; in the then Personnel Office; in the Academic Office; with the planning team; as Director of the Student Recruitment and Admissions Office; as Corporate Director of the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth; as Director of Campus Affairs (through which he launched the International Gateway for Gifted Youth) and he was appointed Deputy Registrar in February 2008. He was also a member of the University’s Residential Team, and he undertook and completed a Distance Learning MBA at Warwick Business School.
Ken is very committed to supporting the success of young people in education and the community with a particular focus on supporting the highly able and widening participation. He was Chair of Governors of Woodway Park School in Coventry and oversaw the transition to what is now Grace Academy. He established the University’s Trust School Partnerships and is Chair of the Kingsley Education Trust in Redditch. He is University’s professional sponsor for the WMG Academy for Young Engineers which is being launched in 2014.
Ken has spoken extensively on service development and innovation, including partnerships between universities and the private sector, at conferences in the UK, Europe and Southern Asia.
Ken sits on the Board of MAC in Birmingham. He is a member of the Association of Heads of University Administration and a Fellow of the Association of University Administrators. He also serves as member of the judging panel for the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards.
