Kirk Stapleton
Kirk Stapleton is Senior Vice President, Care Delivery Systems, United Health
He has over 20 years of experience in health care delivery systems, services, and insurance and information sectors. Currently Mr. Stapleton is developing a business unit focused on enabling local health delivery systems to evolve into accountable care organizations managing population based financial risk.
Prior tot his current duties Mr. Stapleton has developed United HealthCare cardiac and orthopedic/spine lines of services; led the development of informatic based physician and hospital quality and cost designation programs (Premium), developed United Resource Networks, a division of United Healthcare Group focused on end stage disease treatment including organ and tissue transplant services managing over 30 million lives.
Prior to re-joining United in 2002, Mr. Stapleton was an active advisor and investor for several businesses in biotech, life sciences, health information, and hospitals nationwide. Mr. Stapleton founded disease-focused businesses, including Vida Healthcare, venture backed cancer disease Management Company. Mr. Stapleton started his career with Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois in hospital administration (Emergency Room and Outpatient Services).
Mr. Stapleton has served on the board of directors of Southside Community Health Services – Minneapolis, a federally qualified community health clinic providing primary care, dental, and mental health services to over 30,000 in urban Minneapolis; and Minnesota International Health Volunteers a non governmental health service organization focused on developing and maternal and child health improvements world wide through sustainable local health system development in underserved areas of Africa and Caribbean and South East Asia.
Mr. Stapleton is a graduate of Luther College, Decorah, Iowa (BA. Economics); and University of Iowa (MA Hospital and Health Administration).
