Marwaan Davids

Marwaan Davids matriculated in 1991 from Silver Oaks Secondary School- Eldorado Park Gauteng and worked as a backyard mechanic. He got onto a Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship Programme in 1992 at Putco Bus Services, qualifying in 1995 (two and half years to complete his apprenticeship).

He worked as an artisan for Putco on a 6 month contract after qualifying and had to leave because of downsizing. He moved to a company called Vorlaufer cars specialising in the rebuilding, repairs and maintenance of classic and executive vehicles - mainly Jaguars.

In 1999, Marwaan moved to Tracker when vehicle information technology and telemetry came to South Africa, as an aftermarket vehicle technician. He moved in the company and got promoted as technical trainer - doing short courses and eventually studied further with UNISA and completed his National ABET Diploma. He got involved in change management and strategic development with Tracker mergers, takeovers and partnerships.

Marwaan Davids resigned from Tracker and pursued a career in ABET training and also did consulting , training and strategic development in a private capacity.

Between 2011 to 2014 he was employed by IMPERIAL as a generalist for training development where he initiated workplace, school to work and initiatives for artisan development within the motor sector. His last position at IMPERIAL was as National Technical Training Manager. The industry involvement and initiatives gained at IMPERIAL gave him a good reputation and he was spotted by the Retail Motor Industry Organisation and was made an offer to be the National Training Director, a position that he currently holds since July 2012.

His career is based on work and life experience, which is supplemented by the academic training and development system through the NQF framework and formal tertiary education. Marwaan believes in abilities and he believes that he is a product of work integrated learning. He believes in our education and training systems.
