Toby Lewis
Since April 2013, Toby has been Chief Executive of a large integrated care organisation serving half a million people in Birmingham and Sandwell. The Trust delivers care from 150 locations, including two large acute hospitals. A tradition of community engagement underpins what we do.
Having joined the NHS in 1994, Toby has been involved with services for homeless people across a range of roles. Working with GPs in Lambeth in the 1990s he helped commission the peripatetic homeless health outreach team and funded dedicated social work input into practices to encourage primary care registration.
As Chief Operating Officer at Barts until 2013, he worked with the London Care Pathway team in setting up the inter-site trial into the basic model, having served as a director at UCLH, where it was first piloted.
This winter Toby has supported third sector leaders and practitioners in implementing a version of the LCP in Birmingham. He chairs an advisory group across the acute Trusts in the city who are collaborating to make Better Care happen for homeless people using A&E, before the fund of the same name takes shape.
