Richard Siggs, better known as Siggsy, has been a Police officer with Sussex Police for 27 years. He has served at many Sussex towns and Policing units and was posted to Brighton on promotion to Sergeant. Siggsy started the work on Operation Dodger in June 2003 which in turn became the Street Community Neighbourhood Policing Team (SC NPT) and says, “This is without doubt the most rewarding work I have been involved in.”

The SCNPT tackle the concerns of the residents and traders of the city of Brighton and Hove regarding the actions and behaviours of the cities Street Community such as rough sleeping, street drinking, begging and overt drug use BUT also provide a service to the Street Community in the form of Operation Street, tackling violent crime against the Street Community, working in partnership to reduce risk to individuals. The SCNPT tackle issues in such a way as to encourage the root cause issues to be addressed.

The Emergency Assessment Centres (EACs) are a development of that existing partnership practice attempting to reduce the numbers of rough sleepers within the city.

The SC NPT has won, together with partner agencies such as CRI and Brighton & Hove City Council National and International awards for problem solving.
