Cath Maffia

For 27 years Cath Maffia worked as a Health Visitor in Salford, Greater Manchester. Her final 4 years, 2000-2004, were spent as Specialist Health Visitor for Refugees and Asylum Seekers. She found this work with people from all over the world so fascinating that she studied for a European MA in Migration, Mental Health and Social Care.

In 2004 Cath took early retirement from the NHS and moved from the Mainstream to the Margins by joining Refugee Action’s Well-being Project.

In 2008 she co-founded TS4SE Cooperative, a not-for-profit organisation working to bridge the gaps between vulnerable migrants and service providers by offering training and consultancy on all aspects of work with vulnerable migrants. Cath Maffia is currently engaged with with NHS England Equality and Health Inequalities Team on vulnerable migrants’ access to primary care. She volunteers with Freedom from Torture, and is involved with organisations working with vulnerable migrants.
