Mick Dodge
Mick is the deputy head of the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) and manages the team’s investigation and disruption capabilities. Since its creation in 2013 PIPCU has been a world leader in the use of innovative approaches to tackle the distribution of pirated digital content and continues to focus on protecting the UK economy and creative industries from this cyber threat, which often originates overseas. The team uses more traditional policing techniques to actively pursue organised crime groups involved in counterfeiting and works closely with law enforcement partners across the globe, with a particular focus on issues that endanger public safety.
Mick’s detective career started in 2003 in a busy South London borough investigating sexual offences and working with victims of the most serious crimes. In 2004 he joined the City of London Police’s Economic Crime Directorate as a financial investigator and has worked in asset recovery, money laundering and cheque and payment card fraud teams.
In 2010 he joined the Dedicated Cheque and Plastic Crime Unit where his expertise was applied to the investigation of serious and organised crime, often involving criminal groups that were active internationally.
Before moving to PIPCU in 2015 he spent two years as the staff officer to the Assistant Commissioner where he supported a broad portfolio, with primary responsibility for national policing’s information assurance strategy and performance.
