Dr Gregory Burke
Dr Gregory Burke, Chief Executive, DisabledGo
Acquiring his disability in his teens Gregory has direct experience of the barriers disabled people face to accessing, and contributing to society. Gregory developed the concept of DisabledGo while studying for his PhD at Kings College Cambridge, co-ordinating an unprecedented national consultation exercise among disabled people. The result was over one hundred public endorsements from disability organisations and charities for DisabledGo’s aims and methods.
DisabledGo is now the most popular resource for disability access information on the Internet. DisabledGo provides fine grain disabled access information on a town-by-town, city-by-city basis across the UK and is the only service of its type that surveys every venue in person using a standardised methodology. The service is used by tens of thousands of disabled people every month. All the information is available free at the point of use on www.disabledgo.com . Gregory is passionate about maintaining DisabledGo’s grassroots and has established a national involvement network, where disability stakeholders can give their feedback on the project.
