Caroline Alexander, Director of Quality Development, Tower Hamlets PCT

Caroline graduated as a nurse in 1987 from Edinburgh University (BSc/RGN) and has an MSc in Nursing Studies from Southbank University (2001).

From 1987 to 1993 she specialised in nursing older people. She then worked for the Foundation of Nursing Studies for three years supporting nurses to use research in practice. In 1998 Caroline returned to the NHS and has worked in Tower Hamlets until the current time in a range of roles – from nurse adviser for older people, head of services for older people to her current role as Director of Quality Development for NHS Tower Hamlets.

A key focus of this role is assuring the quality of commissioned services as part of the commissioning process and ensuring strong clinical leadership and engagement in commissioning decisions. Caroline and her team developed and published a Strategic Framework for Quality Assurance for NHS Tower Hamlets in May 2010 which is available on the NHS Tower Hamlets website.

Caroline was a 2008 Florence Nightingale Leadership Scholar. She is a Governor of Tower Hamlets College and a Visiting Professor at City University. Caroline is also a member of the London Network of Nurses & Midwives Strategic Board (LNMN) and represents nurse leaders in commissioning on the Leaders in Nursing Council.
