In the context of the 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review, which will set central government's spending objectives until 2011, this NLGN event provided the first opportunity following the local elections to discuss the implications of the CSR on local government funding. The government is committed to respond to the recent Lyons Inquiry at the CSR and this event was an opportunity to hear first hand debates over potential reform. Delegates considered the long term view of local government finance whilst examining opportunities to develop efficiency savings through greater shared learning and working. The event also provided a forum to explore new funding mechanisms including charging and generating income from assets as well as the importance of economic incentives which can be used to develop local economies and communities.
